China Propaganda Outlet Paid Millions to US Media; Crossfire Hurricane Investigations Move Forward

G
Gina Sturdza
China Daily, a state-run Chinese news outlet, released financial documents showing that it spent millions of dollars for paid content or inserts at major U.S. news outlets including the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post. The outlets have noted the content was labeled as “advertisement.” The China Daily inserts typically run under “China Watch,” and in addition to being registered as a foreign agent under FARA in the United States, China Daily was listed by the U.S. government as a “Foreign Mission” of the Chinese government. And the “Crossfire Hurricane” investigations into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia are now turning into investigations into the investigators themselves. Top officials who helped launch the investigation may now be called on to testify, and risk jail sentences if wrongdoing is found. These stories and more in this episode of Crossroads.
