Taiwan Presents Its Wares at World’s Largest Annual Biotech Event

BIO International Convention is the largest global annual event for the biotechnology industry. This year Philadelphia is hosting the convention from June 3rd to 6th, and Taiwan is making their presence felt. Tsung-Tsong Wu, Minister without Portfolio from Taiwan’s Executive Yuan, led a delegation from Taiwan. The delegation was made up of more than 210 Taiwanese biomedical practitioners and academic experts. It was the 10th largest participating delegation at the event. The Taiwan Pavilion was officially opened on June 4th. James C. Greenwood, the president and CEO of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization who is the guest of honor for the ceremony, announced its partnership with Taiwan Bio this year. "For the first time, we will be combining forces to present BIO Asia in Taiwan," said Greenwood. "Taiwan is already a global powerhouse in technology, IT and computing systems. That's why Taiwan is uniquely situated to play an integral role in our future." The convention will be hosted in Taipei from July 24 to 28, 2019, with the theme “Biotech as the Next Growth Engine for Asia." "This year we expect more than 1,500 people from 25 countries. Our joint conference will bring together cutting edge innovators and investors across North America, Europe, and Asia to explore business opportunities with Taiwan's emerging biotech sector," Greenwood added. That makes it the largest event for the biomedical sector in Asia. During the BIO Taiwan Convention, there will be one-on-one business meetings, lectures, and seminars, as well as an exhibition with more than 600 companies and more than 1,700 booths. "While the U.S. is a global front runner in the biotech industry. I firmly believe that together we can make a positive impact on each others biopharma and biotech communities," said Lily L. W. Hsu, Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York. "I look forward to [the] more fruitful partnership being formed between our two countries in this event." This year during the 2019 BIO International Convention, the Taiwan delegation focuses on promoting precision medicine, personalized medicine, and digital health. The Taiwan Pavilion has also organized a wide variety of events to increase networking opportunities and promoting international collaborations. From national research institutions, to biomedical industries, to universities, over 39 Taiwanese exhibitors are exhibiting at BIO International Convention, presenting a total of 61 technologies and products. It is expected that the Taiwan Pavilion will conduct more than 400 business opportunity gatherings to foster international cooperation and expand new business opportunities. The Taiwan delegation also hosted a gratitude dinner the same evening at the Ritz Carlton hotel. More than 300 guests attended, 30 percent of whom were international guests. Sponsored by BOST R.O.C.
