I Restored This Yellowed & Broken SNES - Retro Console Restoration

Odd Tinkering
Odd Tinkering
I will restore this broken and yellowed Super Nintedndo Entertainment System (SNES). This moden is the NTSC model for North America. The console is dirty, yellowed and won't play games. I started with disassembly. The console has special Gamebit screws. Typical screw driver kits won't have a fitting tip and it needs to be bought separately. The console is easy to disassemble and it has only 2 types of screws inside. but it's important to keep track where each type is used. After disassembly I cleaned the parts with watery soap. Next I put them in my retrobrighting box to remove the yellowing with hydrogen peroxide and UV-lights. Tutorial to building the box: https://youtu.be/JX-RJM8MZpU Tutorial to retrobrighting: https://youtu.be/jdWRsjnVD3s After the yellowing was removed, I continued to inspect the board. Usually problems with SNES are due to the cartridge reader. There was some corrosion near one of the chips on the board, which led me to notice there were cold solder joints. I reflowed the solder on the joints and cleaned the contacts for the game cartridge reader and the console started working. If you have issues and cleaning the cartridge contacts won't fix it, you can also use schematics to try to figure out what the issue is. You can find the schematics from here: https://wiki.superfamicom.org/schematics-ports-and-pinouts#snes-schematic-491 Additionally I recreated the missing Nintendo service sticker based on original stickers I have on my other consoles, not that I needed to call the service number ever ;) Thank you for watching my video!
