Complete US Ban Only Option for Security From TikTok, Given Easy Backdoors in Coding: Casey Fleming

TikTok’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, testified before Congress on Thursday. A central issue is whether the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has access to user data on phones with this app. Chew says through work on “Project Texas,” it’s deleting U.S. user data that’s not on Oracle servers that are stored in the United States. He expects that to be done this year, and says when that’s done, all of that data will be in the control of a U.S.-led security team. NTD spoke to Casey Fleming, CEO of security advisory firm BlackOps Partners Corporation, for analysis. Fleming says a complete ban is “absolutely the only option for security.” That’s because he says it’s easy to write code to flip a switch to make it appear as though the data were safe, but then have that data sent to entities like the Chinese regime.
