Statue Topplers Lose Human Rights Defence Case
NTD News
0 Followed
Judges have ruled that activists who damage statues can’t defend their actions under human rights laws. In a ruling, Lord Chief Justice Ian Duncan Burnett said the toppling of Edward Colston’s statue in Bristol in 2020 was violent, caused significant damage, and is not protected by the European Convention on Human Rights.
This came after Home Secretary Suella Braverman referred the case to the Court of Appeal so the law could be clarified for future cases.
