David P. Goldman is an economist, music critic, and author, best known for his series of online essays in the Asia Times under the pseudonym “Spengler,” and he is a principal of Asia Times Holdings. Previously, he directed research groups at Credit Suisse and Bank of America. His recent book "You Will Be Assimilated: China’s Plan to Sino-form the World" was published in 2020 by Bombardier Books. At the 2022 National Conservatism Conference, Goldman spoke on the topic: “What Happens if China Leads the 4th Industrial Revolution?” NTD sat down with him on the sidelines of the event to discuss U.S.–China competition and how China is trying to sidestep its demographic challenges. “China's exporting capital, particularly driven by broadband and digital infrastructure, as well as physical infrastructure to an economy starting with Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia—with its 300 billion people—increasingly, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Panama, and its objective is to hardwire those economies into China's economic sphere. So effectively, their people are working for Chinese companies and producing profits and goods for China and become dependent on China and effectively pay for China's retirement.”
