'Mao’s Army Goes to Sea: The Island Campaigns and the Founding of China’s Navy'

The China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has been forced to carry out a series of radical transformations since 1949. It has developed into a formidable fighting force but without the expertise and resources needed to conduct modern maritime operations. In the book "Mao’s Army Goes to Sea," the author Toshi Yoshihara provides an unprecedented look at the transformations of the PLA. In the book talk event held by The Global Taiwan Institute (GTI) at 12:00 p.m. ET on Feb. 8, Toshi Yoshihara will shed light on the leaders and doctrines behind the establishment of the People’s Liberation Army Navy, the factors that shaped the development of the PLA Navy, the key figures in this process, and what can this period can teach us about the modern Chinese navy.
