4 Ways Preserve Scallions for Weeks or Months, CiCi Li - Asian Home Cooking Recipes

Hi, all my foodies! A few weeks ago, I shared with you on how to preserve cilantro for longer. Many of you asked me how to preserve scallions. You can preserve them in similar ways. Let’s take a look! Recipe: https://cicili.tv/preserve-scallions/ 中文影片: https://www.youtube.com/NTDfoodparadise 1. Persevere the scallions in a glass of water and a Ziploc bag in the fridge. • First, wash the scallions. • Fill a glass with 1.5 inches of water. • Place the scallions in the glass. • Cover the scallions with a large Ziploc bag. • Transfer the glass in your fridge. • The scallions will look fresh for 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the condition of your scallions when you first got them. 2. Preserve the scallions with paper towels and Ziploc bags. • After washing the scallions, pad dry or air-dry the scallions as much as possible. • Cut the scallions by separating the green and the white. • Take 2 pieces of paper towels, and wrap a handful of the green part in it. • Place them in a large Ziploc bag. Push the air out from the Ziploc bags and seal. • Take 1 piece of paper towel, and wrap a handful of the white part in it. • Place them in another Ziploc bags. Push the air out from the Ziploc bags and seal. • Label and date them. So you know what they are and when you should consume them by. • Repeat with the rest of the scallions. They could last between 2 to 4 weeks. Again, it depends on the condition of the scallions when you first got them. 3. Chop the scallions and freeze them. • First, wash the scallions. • Pat dry. • Separate the green and the white. • Chop the white part of scallions. Put it a small Ziploc bag. • Chop the green part of the scallions. Put it in a Ziploc bag. • Write the date on the bags. • Freeze them. • They will last at least 3 months. • When you use them, you don’t have to thaw them. Simply take what you need, and put it in soup or stir-fry dishes directly. If you thawed and put it back in the freezer, the quality will change. However, this method won’t work as garnishes, only for cooked dishes, juice, and puree. 4. Grow scallions in potting mix • First, in a pot or a can with good drainage on the bottom. I’m using a can I drilled a few holes on the bottom. But it will be best if you have a larger container. • Add the potting mix in it. • Place the roots of the scallions in it. Water it daily and place it in a sunny place. • Cut out the parts that you need to use. The green parts will regrow again. • This method will last you a very long time, at least a few months. • You can also do this in water. But since the weather is getting really warm now. The bottom may rotten in about 2 weeks. But it also depends on the types of scallions, some might not ever got rotten.
